SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 5
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join
the citizens of Lancaster in celebrating the life and legacy
of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., on the occasion of the
fourth annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day parade
being held January 13, 2007; and
       WHEREAS, The City of Lancaster, the Lancaster Independent
School District, and the MLK Day Citizen Committee have joined
forces with the Lancaster Martin Luther King, Jr., Foundation
and Parade Committee to stage this tribute; and
       WHEREAS, The Lancaster Martin Luther King, Jr., Foundation
seeks to educate the community about Dr. King's legacy through
such means as offering scholarships to deserving high school
seniors; and
       WHEREAS, The foundation also offers concrete expressions
of Dr. King's ideals, such as aiding senior citizens by helping
to repair their homes, deterring young people from engaging in
gang violence, and providing food and clothing to those who are
temporarily in need; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend the sponsors of and participants
in the fourth annual Lancaster Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Day parade and extend best wishes to them for an outstanding
celebration; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of this special occasion.
