SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 5
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join |
|
the citizens of Lancaster in celebrating the life and legacy |
|
of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., on the occasion of the |
|
fourth annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day parade |
|
being held January 13, 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, The City of Lancaster, the Lancaster Independent |
|
School District, and the MLK Day Citizen Committee have joined |
|
forces with the Lancaster Martin Luther King, Jr., Foundation |
|
and Parade Committee to stage this tribute; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Lancaster Martin Luther King, Jr., Foundation |
|
seeks to educate the community about Dr. King's legacy through |
|
such means as offering scholarships to deserving high school |
|
seniors; and |
|
WHEREAS, The foundation also offers concrete expressions |
|
of Dr. King's ideals, such as aiding senior citizens by helping |
|
to repair their homes, deterring young people from engaging in |
|
gang violence, and providing food and clothing to those who are |
|
temporarily in need; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend the sponsors of and participants |
|
in the fourth annual Lancaster Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. |
|
Day parade and extend best wishes to them for an outstanding |
|
celebration; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
honor of this special occasion. |
