SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 8
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Mary Elizabeth Beck of Dallas, who is being honored
by the Upsilon Nu Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority,
Incorporated, for 50 years of outstanding service; and
       WHEREAS, Mary Beck is being recognized at the Upsilon Nu
Zeta Founders Day Celebration on January 13, 2007, and the day
has been declared Mary Elizabeth Beck's Day by the mayor of
Dallas; and
       WHEREAS, The many organizations to which she has so
generously given her time and energy include the American Red
Cross, the March of Dimes, the American Cancer Association, the
Veterans of Foreign Wars, United Way of Greater Dallas, and the
United Negro College Fund; and
       WHEREAS, She has served as a mentor and as an advisor for
Top Teens of America; she has also served as president of
Soroptimist International of Dallas, Incorporated, and as a
member of the board of directors of Camp Summit; and
       WHEREAS, Mary Beck has been a diligent volunteer and is a
valuable community leader who has received numerous awards for
her outstanding work and generosity; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Mary Elizabeth Beck for her
tireless work on behalf of others and congratulate her on her
50 years of service with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated;
and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
