SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 14
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Lyons Lodge 195, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons,
on the historic occasion of the 150th anniversary of its
founding; and
       WHEREAS, Lyons Lodge 195 originated in the community
of Lyons, located one mile south of present-day Schulenburg;
a charter for the lodge was obtained on January 22, 1857, and
the first meeting took place in a Lyons farmhouse; a lodge hall
was built in 1861; and
       WHEREAS, Many of the residents of Lyons moved following
the Civil War to the thriving community of High Hill, four miles
north of Lyons; by 1869, meetings were held in High Hill; when
the Galveston-Houston railway line moved west, the town of
Schulenburg was established in 1873; and
       WHEREAS, Members of the lodge moved their building from
Lyons to Schulenburg in 1874; the building also served as
Schulenburg Public School until 1900; a new lodge hall constructed
in 1876 served its members for over 100 years; a new building was
erected in 1986; and
       WHEREAS, On February 10, 2007, members of Lyons Lodge are
gathering to celebrate their achievements, observe the lodge's
sesquicentennial, and witness the unveiling of a Texas State
Historical Commission marker in front of their Masonic Hall;
now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby congratulate members of Lyons Lodge 195
on the occasion of the organization's 150th anniversary and the
unveiling of its Texas State Historical Commission marker; and,
be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of Lyons Lodge as an expression of high regard from
the Texas Senate.
