SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 51
 
  In Memory
  of
  Dr. James David Gossett
  Pauline Beverly Gossett
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the lives of Dr. James David Gossett and
  Pauline Beverly Gossett, who were highly esteemed community
  leaders in Rankin and Upton County; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. James D. Gossett died on August 2, 2006, and
  Pauline Gossett died on November 6, 2006; they were married for
  46 years; and
         WHEREAS, James Gossett was born in Garza County on
  September 16, 1924; he served in the Army during World War II; he
  earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical
  Branch in 1948 and opened Gossett Clinic in Rankin in 1952; he
  attended to the medical needs of the citizens of Rankin and
  McCamey for 44 years and was noted for the high standards he set
  in caring for his patients; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Gossett was a strong supporter of education in
  his community; he served for more than 30 years on the board of
  trustees of the Rankin Independent School District, including 20
  years of service as board president; he was a member of the Red
  Devil Booster Club and served as the football team's physician
  for 44 years; he was a longtime member of the Lions Club and
  served as chairman of the Republican Party of Upton County for
  many years; and
         WHEREAS, Pauline Beverly Thompson was born on April 9, 1924,
  in Marshalltown, Iowa; she earned a degree from Saint Barnabas
  College of Nursing and worked for many years as an obstetrics nurse
  in Odessa; she also often assisted her husband in his office
  practice; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of many talents, Pauline Gossett was
  especially noted for her artistic skills and her culinary
  expertise; she was instrumental in establishing the Beta Sigma
  Phi Sorority in Rankin and was named the sorority's Woman of the
  Year; she was honored by the Upton County Historical Society for
  her many contributions to the Rankin community; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. James Gossett and Pauline Gossett genuinely
  cared for the welfare and happiness of others and earned the
  admiration and respect of all who knew them; and
         WHEREAS, They were devoted parents and grandparents, and
  they will long be remembered with affection and appreciation by
  all who were privileged to share in their lives; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the lives of
  Dr. James David Gossett and Pauline Beverly Gossett and
  extend sincere condolences to their bereaved family:
  their children, Anne Hamilton and her husband, Dan; the
  Honorable Tom Gossett and his wife, Linda; Bryan Gossett and his
  wife, Nancy; Kitty Sue Proctor and her husband, Ray; Linda Ann Tucker;
  Jamie Dee Senter and her husband, Dr. Paul Senter; and their 15
  grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  their family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
  in memory of Dr. James David Gossett and Pauline Beverly Gossett.
