SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 61
       WHEREAS, Major Vic A. Maceo is retiring after 40 years of
service with the Galveston County Sheriff's Office Beach Patrol;
and
       WHEREAS, Vic Maceo has been affiliated with the beach patrol
since 1967, when he was a 16-year-old lifeguard; he was promoted
to lieutenant in 1982, to captain four years later, and to major
in 1992; and
       WHEREAS, This dedicated professional worked with local and
state leaders in 1981 to ensure that the city's lifeguard program
received permanent funding through the hotel-motel tax bill; with
the passage of that legislation, the sheriff's office, together
with the City of Galveston's Park Board of Trustees, took over
administration of the beach patrol; and
       WHEREAS, Through Major Maceo's visionary leadership, the
Galveston Beach Patrol has continued to grow and improve; moreover,
Major Maceo oversaw the creation of the Gulf Coast Region of the
United States Lifesaving Association and the local Galveston
chapter, which he has served as president; and
       WHEREAS, In his 40 years as a member of the beach patrol,
Major Maceo has personally made more than 400 rescues; he was
recognized for his hard work and dedication with his receipt of
a Medal of Heroism from the National Society of the Sons of the
American Revolution in 1989; and
       WHEREAS, For four decades, Vic Maceo has demonstrated an
unwavering commitment to serving his community by promoting
safety and preventing injury and loss of life on the beaches of
Galveston County, and his actions have truly made a difference
in the lives of countless people; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby congratulate Major Vic A. Maceo on the
occasion of his retirement from the Galveston County Sheriff's
Office Beach Patrol and extend to him best wishes for continued
happiness in all his endeavors; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for Major Maceo as an expression of high regard from the
Texas Senate.
