SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 62
       WHEREAS, Through his work as a physician and his contributions
as an active civic leader, Dr. M. Reza Jahadi has exemplified the
Rotary International motto of "service above self"; and
       WHEREAS, Over the course of his notable career, Dr. Jahadi
served as president of the medical staff at Saint Mary's Hospital,
clinical associate professor in the division of general surgery
at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and director
of correctional managed care at the medical branch; moreover, he
cultivated a successful private practice that served area residents
for more than two decades before his retirement in 1997; and
       WHEREAS, His dedication to his field has been underscored
by his involvement in a number of professional organizations;
Dr. Jahadi has served as president of the Galveston County Medical
Society, Texas Medical Association, and Texas Society of Colon
and Rectal Surgeons, and he has been named a fellow of the American
Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the American Society of
Gastrointestinal Endoscopy; and
       WHEREAS, Despite his many responsibilities, Dr. Jahadi has
consistently made time in his busy schedule to serve his community;
this charter member and former president of the Rotary Club of
Galveston Island has amassed 30 years of perfect Rotary attendance;
in addition, he has given generously of his time to the executive
boards of the Boy Scouts of America, the American Cancer Society,
and the Texas Navy, and has served as president of the American
Heart Association, Galveston Crime Stoppers, and the Galveston
Chamber of Commerce; and
       WHEREAS, Dr. Jahadi has earned numerous honors for his many
good works; named Galveston Man of the Year for Education and
Medicine by The Galveston County Daily News, he was recognized
with the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from Rotary International,
earned recognition for Outstanding Community Service and Leadership
for his work as chair of the Galveston County Medical Society
Task Force Committee, and was honored by the mayor and city council,
who proclaimed June 30, 1981, as "Reza Jahadi Day"; and
       WHEREAS, Dr. Jahadi is moving to San Diego to be near his
daughter, and although his fellow residents are sorry to bid him
farewell, his influence on the Galveston community is a lasting
one, and his many friends wish him well as he begins a new chapter
in his life; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby honor Dr. M. Reza Jahadi for his countless
contributions to the Galveston community and extend to him sincere
best wishes for the future; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared
for Dr. Jahadi as an expression of high regard from the
Texas
