SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 139
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the members of the Society of Martha Washington and the |
|
|
society's president, Anna Benavides Galo, on the occasion of the |
|
|
organization's Colonial Pageant and Ball, which this year is an |
|
|
anniversary party for Martha that highlights the great composers |
|
|
of her era; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The society's unique 2007 gala commemorates the |
|
|
beauty and romance of the ardent love between Martha and |
|
|
George Washington; society members are welcoming family and |
|
|
friends to join them and the "First Couple of the Land" at an 18th |
|
|
century opera house, where President Washington has invited 12 |
|
|
talented musicians to perform; their performance is a surprise |
|
|
anniversary gift to his beloved Martha, an admirer of graceful, |
|
|
classical music; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Society of Martha Washington's pageant is an |
|
|
annual event that spotlights the "First Lady of the Land," an |
|
|
individual who made significant efforts in this country's |
|
|
revolutionary cause; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This year, chosen as exemplary models of the |
|
|
qualities that the society hopes to preserve, James A. Notzon |
|
|
portrays George Washington and Adrienne Goodman Treviño portrays |
|
|
Martha Dandridge Washington; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Society of Martha Washington's Colonial |
|
|
Pageant and Ball fosters an appreciation for George and |
|
|
Martha Washington and helps the people of South Texas to become |
|
|
more knowledgeable about those who contributed to the success of |
|
|
the American Revolutionary War; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby congratulate the members and president |
|
|
of the Society of Martha Washington for enlightening the public |
|
|
about the era of the American War of Independence; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the Society of Martha Washington as an expression of highest |
|
|
regard from the Texas Senate. |
