SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 142
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Gary Farmer, who is being honored as the 2006
Austinite of the Year by the Greater Austin Chamber of
Commerce on February 6, 2007, at its 129th annual meeting; and
       WHEREAS, Gary Farmer is president of Heritage Title
Company of Austin; he has been an active leader in the chamber for
a number of years, having served as chair of the Greater Austin
Economic Development/Corporation, vice-chair of the chamber's
Economic Development Division, and chairman of Opportunity
Austin; and
       WHEREAS, Opportunity Austin is the chamber's five-year
economic development plan to raise $11 million and create
72,000 new jobs in an effort to revitalize and diversify the
city's economy; under Gary's outstanding guidance and
leadership, Opportunity Austin has exceeded its fundraising
goal by $3 million and has made exceptional progress in achieving
its objectives; and
       WHEREAS, Gary graduated from The University of Texas at Austin
and had a successful career in the oil and gas land business
before he began working in the title insurance industry in 1985;
he has served as president of Heritage Title Company since 1987;
and
       WHEREAS, In addition to his valuable work on behalf of the
Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, Gary cofounded and serves on
the Executive Committee of the Real Estate Council of Austin; he
has served on the board of directors of the National Multi-Family
Housing Council, the Boy Scouts of America, and The Headliner's
Club; he holds leadership roles with the Trust for Public Lands
and The Nature Conservancy; he is an exemplary citizen and an
outstanding leader who has made many contributions to the Austin
community and the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce; now,
therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Gary Farmer for his civic
involvement and business accomplishments and congratulate him on
his selection as the 2006 Austinite of the Year by the Greater
Austin Chamber of Commerce; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate.
