SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 150
 
  In Memory
  of
  Rogelio Sanchez
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of El Paso in mourning the loss of Rogelio Sanchez, who
  died November 28, 2006, at the age of 85; and
         WHEREAS, Rogelio Sanchez was an esteemed political icon in
  El Paso politics; he represented the Lower Valley for nine terms
  as a county commissioner, which totaled 36 years of service under
  10 county judges; he was also a schoolteacher and a World War II
  veteran, and was one of the first Hispanics to break the race
  barrier for elected officials in El Paso; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Sanchez was respected in the community for his
  many accomplishments; he included among them the construction of
  Horizon Boulevard, the Trans Mountain Road, the Sun Bowl, the
  El Paso County Courthouse, and the El Paso County Jail; he helped
  establish the Rio Grande Council of Governments and the Head
  Start program in El Paso County; and
         WHEREAS, A gentleman of integrity, strength, and
  generosity, he gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom,
  warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who
  knew him; and
         WHEREAS, He leaves behind memories that will be treasured
  forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family of Rogelio Sanchez; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Rogelio Sanchez.
