SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 154
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Al J. Notzon III for his exceptional community service
and his 40 years of leadership with the Alamo Area Council of
Governments;and
       WHEREAS, Mr. Notzon joined the Alamo Area Council of
Governments in 1967 as director of Regional Services; since
1971, he has served as the organization's executive director;
and
       WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure with the council,
Mr. Notzon has been a passionate advocate for the concept of
regionalism; the Texas Association of Regional Councils has
honored him by naming him the first recipient of the Al J. Notzon
Regional Unity Award; and
       WHEREAS, Mr. Notzon has served his community as a member
of the Rotary Club of San Antonio, the governing board of the
San Antonio Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Joint
Commission on Aging, and the board of directors of the Texas
Leadership Institute; he was named a Scholar by the Academy of
Saint Mary's University and an Hidalgo by the Bexar County
Commissioners Court; and
       WHEREAS, A mentor to many and a highly respected leader,
Mr. Notzon is retiring January 31, 2007, from his position as
executive director of the Alamo Area Council of Governments, and
his presence in the organization will be greatly missed; now,
therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Al J. Notzon III for his
community leadership and for his outstanding service with the
Alamo Area Council of Governments and extend to him best wishes
for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
