|
Manuel Hernandez |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
|
citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Manuel Hernandez, |
|
|
who died January 20, 2007, at the age of 82; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Manuel Hernandez was born August 16, 1924, in |
|
|
Monterrey, Mexico; he was brought to San Antonio as a toddler and |
|
|
it remained his home for the rest of his life; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, As a teenager, Mr. Hernandez altered his age to |
|
|
join the United States Army; he served as an army medic in |
|
|
World War II and was awarded three Bronze Stars; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After his military service, Mr. Hernandez married |
|
|
his childhood sweetheart, Anita Ramirez, who died in 1995; he |
|
|
joined the San Antonio Police Department and served for 35 years, |
|
|
retiring as a detective investigator in 1985; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and generosity, he |
|
|
gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, kindness, and valued |
|
|
counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and |
|
|
grandfather, and he will long be remembered with affection and |
|
|
admiration by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
|
family of Manuel Hernandez: his daughter and son-in-law, Gloria |
|
|
and Ted Johnson; his sons and daughters-in-law, Manuel Hernandez, Jr., |
|
|
and Lisa Hernandez, Richard and Darlene Hernandez, and Gerard Hernandez; |
|
|
his sisters, Elvira Eads and Hortensia Garza; and his nine |
|
|
grandchildren; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy |
|
|
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this |
|
|
day, it do so in memory of Manuel Hernandez. |
