SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 167
 
  In Memory
  of
  Manuel Hernandez
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Manuel Hernandez,
  who died January 20, 2007, at the age of 82; and
         WHEREAS, Manuel Hernandez was born August 16, 1924, in
  Monterrey, Mexico; he was brought to San Antonio as a toddler and
  it remained his home for the rest of his life; and
         WHEREAS, As a teenager, Mr. Hernandez altered his age to
  join the United States Army; he served as an army medic in
  World War II and was awarded three Bronze Stars; and
         WHEREAS, After his military service, Mr. Hernandez married
  his childhood sweetheart, Anita Ramirez, who died in 1995; he
  joined the San Antonio Police Department and served for 35 years,
  retiring as a detective investigator in 1985; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and generosity, he
  gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, kindness, and valued
  counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
  grandfather, and he will long be remembered with affection and
  admiration by all who were privileged to share in his life; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Manuel Hernandez: his daughter and son-in-law, Gloria
  and Ted Johnson; his sons and daughters-in-law, Manuel Hernandez, Jr.,
  and Lisa Hernandez, Richard and Darlene Hernandez, and Gerard Hernandez;
  his sisters, Elvira Eads and Hortensia Garza; and his nine
  grandchildren; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Manuel Hernandez.
