SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 173
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize James Marcus Pappas, global technology coordinator |
|
|
for Devon Energy Corporation, who has been named the 2007 |
|
|
Houston Area Engineer of the Year; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, James Pappas is director for the Houston chapter |
|
|
of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers; he is being |
|
|
honored during the nationwide celebration of Engineers' Week for |
|
|
his record of distinguished service in his profession, his |
|
|
contributions to technical and professional societies, and his |
|
|
longstanding involvement in civic and humanitarian activities; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In September of 2006, he began a three-year term |
|
|
as the technical director of production and operations for the |
|
|
Society of Petroleum Engineers International; he oversees |
|
|
technical contributions in the production and operations areas |
|
|
of the oil and gas industry, including the technical content of |
|
|
papers, books, presentations, and meetings; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He is a regular contributor to professional |
|
|
journals and technical conferences regarding topics that range |
|
|
from exploration and production techniques to the evolution of |
|
|
the engineering profession; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A Laredo native, James Pappas was graduated from |
|
|
The University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor of science |
|
|
degree in chemical engineering, and he earned a master's degree |
|
|
in business administration from The University of Texas at Tyler; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Pappas has made many contributions in the oil |
|
|
and gas industry that have benefited the industry and the |
|
|
citizens of this country, and he deserves special legislative |
|
|
recognition for his outstanding achievements; now, therefore, be |
|
|
it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend James Marcus Pappas for his |
|
|
remarkable accomplishments and congratulate him on being named |
|
|
the 2007 Houston Area Engineer of the Year; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
