Joe Salcido, Jr. |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens |
|
of El Paso in mourning the loss of Pastor Joe Salcido, Jr., who |
|
died January 5, 2007, at the age of 64; and |
|
WHEREAS, Joe Salcido was one of eleven children born to |
|
Jose and Sara Salcido; after graduating from El Paso High School, |
|
he honorably served in the United States Marine Corps for four |
|
years; he attended The University of Texas at El Paso, and he |
|
married Ysabel Marin when he was 25 years old; and |
|
WHEREAS, When Joe heard his call to the ministry, he |
|
accepted that call with joy; he became known throughout Mexico, |
|
Cuba, and Central America for his radio program, Amor Divino, |
|
which ran for 28 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Joe was ordained in 1972 and led a United Church |
|
of Christ congregation for three years before forming a |
|
nondenominational church, now known as the Centro Vida West, |
|
while the main church is Centro Vida Life Center; and |
|
WHEREAS, During Joe's 34 years of preaching, he strove to |
|
improve himself through education, earning a bachelor's degree |
|
in divinity from Logos Bible College and a master's degree in |
|
theology from Trinity Theological Seminary; he received an |
|
honorary doctorate of divinity from Ecclesia College; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was committed to evangelism and often traveled |
|
to evangelize in different areas of the country and to other |
|
countries; he founded a church in Juárez called Amor Divino and |
|
was active in a prison ministry for many years; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and abiding faith, he |
|
gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued |
|
counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and |
|
WHEREAS, Joe Salcido was a devoted husband, father, and |
|
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured |
|
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the |
|
bereaved family of Joe Salcido, Jr.: his wife, Ysabel; his |
|
children, Lorri Ann Navarette, Veronica Tapley, and Joe Salcido III; |
|
and his grandchildren, Daniel Navarette, Brianna Navarette, and |
|
Cheryl Tapley; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy |
|
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Joe Salcido, Jr. |
