SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 175
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay
tribute to Guillermo Carreon of El Paso, who recently celebrated
his 107th birthday; and
       WHEREAS, Guillermo Carreon was born in Chihuahua City, Mexico,
on January 14, 1900; he moved with his family to El Paso when
he was a young man, and he and his brothers and sisters became
United States citizens; and
       WHEREAS, He worked as a roofer and in a variety of handyman
jobs for most of his life; he lived simply and frugally; he never
drove a car, and at the age of 98 he still took the bus to go to
meetings; and
       WHEREAS, He is a beloved resident of Regent Care Center and
well known for his generosity of spirit and his enthusiasm for
living each day to the fullest; and
       WHEREAS, His family and friends joined him for festivities
with a birthday cake and mariachi music at the Regent Care
Center on January 14 to celebrate the momentous occasion of his
107th birthday; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby recognize Guillermo Carreon as a
treasured citizen of this state and extend to him congratulations
on achieving this extraordinary milestone in his life; and, be it
further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as a memento of this special occasion.
