SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 188
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
to honor the senior citizens of our state and to declare
February 13, 2007, as Senior Day at the Capitol; and
       WHEREAS, There are approximately three million Texans over
60 years of age; by the year 2020, it is estimated that more than
five million Texans will be senior citizens; and
       WHEREAS, These exceptional individuals have helped Texas
achieve greatness in agriculture, education, industry,
information technology, literature, performing arts, visual
arts, space exploration, and sports; and
       WHEREAS, Through their selfless service to others and
through their enthusiasm for living life to the fullest, senior
Texans are role models for younger Texans; as Texans continue to
live longer, these seniors will demonstrate the importance of
healthy aging, which is being emphasized at Senior Day this year;
and
       WHEREAS, Texas seniors reflect the state's diverse ethnic,
spiritual, and cultural roots and exemplify the common bonds the
citizens of the Lone Star State share; Senior Day at the Capitol
celebrates the contributions of these citizens and addresses the
issues facing seniors in Texas; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend senior Texans for their
priceless contributions to our state and extend to them a warm
welcome to the Capitol on this special day in their honor; and,
be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
them as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
