SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 198
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Coppell Middle School North Cougar Band, which was
recently named the 2006-2007 Texas State Honor Band by the Texas
Music Educators Association; and
       WHEREAS, Honor band competition began in June of 2006, with
bands from 260 middle schools eligible to compete at district,
region, and area levels; the Coppell Middle School North Cougar
Band was selected the first place honor band at each level of
competition, winning over the 14 top honor finalists to become
the State Honor Band; and
       WHEREAS, Under the expert guidance of their skillful band
director, Joey Ashbrook, and the assistant band director,
Brandon Slovak, the talented musicians displayed teamwork and
extraordinary proficiency in their performances; they were
fully supported in their efforts by Coppell Middle School North
administrators and by a dedicated group of volunteers and
parents; and
       WHEREAS, The Cougar Band students and the directors and
instructors are a source of tremendous pride to their families
and their community, and they deserve recognition for their grand
accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to the Coppell
Middle School North Cougar Band on earning the title of the Texas
State Honor Band for 2006-2007; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a
tribute to the Coppell Middle School North Cougar Band.
