SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 218
 
  In Memory
  of
  Richard Garcia
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Richard Garcia, who died June 6, 2006,
  at the age of 64; and
         WHEREAS, A Brownsville native, Richard Garcia played a
  major role in bringing medical research facilities and
  educational opportunities to the Rio Grande Valley; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia was assistant vice president of
  South Texas programs for The University of Texas Health Science
  Center at San Antonio; he was instrumental in the university's
  expansion to three Regional Academic Health Center facilities
  along the border; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia was involved in the South Texas Border
  Health Professions Education Initiative; he helped establish new
  health-related degree programs along the border and created
  collaborative programs with universities in Mexico; and
         WHEREAS, Richard Garcia will be remembered for the many
  contributions he made to the Rio Grande Valley, and his
  altruistic accomplishments will not be forgotten; and
         WHEREAS, A man of strength and compassion, he gave
  generously to others, and he leaves behind memories that will be
  treasured for years to come by his family and many friends; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family and friends of Richard Garcia; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Richard Garcia.
