SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 222
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
to recognize the members of the Edinburg High School Mariachi
group for their contributions to the musical heritage of our
state; and
       WHEREAS, The Mariachi group includes students from three
rival high schools in Edinburg who have developed a strong bond
through their passion for Mariachi, the music that reflects its
Mexican heritage and that appeals to all cultures; and
       WHEREAS, The members of the Edinburg Mariachi group also
play other types of music and perform with their high school bands,
orchestras, and choir programs; to be eligible to play with the
Edinburg Mariachi group, students must excel in their academic
studies as well; and
       WHEREAS, The Edinburg Mariachi group has performed in a
variety of venues and has excelled in local and international
competitions; and
       WHEREAS, The students of the Edinburg High School Mariachi
group are outstanding performers, and they exemplify the
exceptional talent and the rich cultural heritage of Edinburg;
now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend members of the Edinburg
High School Mariachi group for their unique talent and their
dedication to Mariachi music and extend to them best wishes for
continued success in the future; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of the Mariachi group as an expression of esteem from
the Texas Senate.
