SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 223
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Laura Danielle Gonzalez, who recently won the title
of Miss Edinburg 2007; and
       WHEREAS, A freshman honor roll student at Edinburg North
High School, Laura competed with 14 other young women between
the ages of 14 and 19 to capture the crown; she is only 14 years
old and is the youngest person to ever hold a city title in the
Rio Grande Valley; and
       WHEREAS, Laura participates in a wide variety of activities
in school while staying on the A honor roll; she dances with the
Golden Spurs, competes in University Interscholastic League
events, is involved with the freshman student council, and is a
part of the drama club; and
       WHEREAS, Laura was nominated to attend the 2007 Lead
America Conference and was selected for the Duke University
Talent Identification Program; she is active in community
affairs and she volunteers at local walks, including Relay for
Life; she is an altar server at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic
Church; and
       WHEREAS, Laura Danielle Gonzalez is a source of great
pride to her family, friends, school, and community, and the
poise, grace, and commitment to excellence she has shown will
serve her well during her reign as Miss Edinburg and throughout
her life; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Laura Danielle Gonzalez for her
many accomplishments and extend congratulations to her for being
named Miss Edinburg 2007; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
