SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 231
 
  In Memory
  of
  David H. Brune
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of David H. Brune, who died January 13, 2007,
  at the age of 76; and
         WHEREAS, David Brune was born in Long Beach, California,
  and grew up in a Navy family; he graduated from what is now Jesuit
  College Preparatory School in Dallas; he attended Texas Christian
  University before serving in the United States Navy; and
         WHEREAS, After his military service, Mr. Brune earned a
  bachelor's degree and a law degree from The University of Texas
  at Austin; he served in the United States Navy Reserve from 1953
  until 1983, and he was the inspector general for the Naval Reserve
  Readiness Command from 1975 to 1980; he received the Naval
  Commendation Medal for his military service; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Brune began his law career in 1958 with the
  San Antonio firm of Sawtelle, Hardy, Davis, and Goode and became
  a partner in the firm, while also serving as general counsel for
  the San Antonio River Authority; he became the general manager
  for the river authority and he gained valuable experience that
  informed the rest of his career; and
         WHEREAS, In 1968, Mr. Brune was recruited to become the first
  general manager of the Trinity River Authority, a position he held
  until 1979, when he became one of the driving forces behind the
  Las Colinas project; over the next 10 years, he held numerous
  positions with the project, including director of Southland
  Financial Company, the publicly held company that owned Las Colinas;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Brune was active in the Catholic Church and
  the University of Dallas and was a member of the Knights of the
  Holy Sepulchre; he enjoyed cultivating his land in Foard County
  and was involved in helping to build the library in Crowell; and
         WHEREAS, A man of loyalty, strength, and compassion, he gave
  generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel
  will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
  and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by
  his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family of David H. Brune: his daughters, Elizabeth Hark
  and Claudia Sandbach; and his five grandchildren and great-grandchild;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
  members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
  the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
  it do so in memory of David H. Brune.
