SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 231

David H. Brune |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of David H. Brune, who died January 13, 2007, |
|
at the age of 76; and |
|
WHEREAS, David Brune was born in Long Beach, California, |
|
and grew up in a Navy family; he graduated from what is now Jesuit |
|
College Preparatory School in Dallas; he attended Texas Christian |
|
University before serving in the United States Navy; and |
|
WHEREAS, After his military service, Mr. Brune earned a |
|
bachelor's degree and a law degree from The University of Texas |
|
at Austin; he served in the United States Navy Reserve from 1953 |
|
until 1983, and he was the inspector general for the Naval Reserve |
|
Readiness Command from 1975 to 1980; he received the Naval |
|
Commendation Medal for his military service; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Brune began his law career in 1958 with the |
|
San Antonio firm of Sawtelle, Hardy, Davis, and Goode and became |
|
a partner in the firm, while also serving as general counsel for |
|
the San Antonio River Authority; he became the general manager |
|
for the river authority and he gained valuable experience that |
|
informed the rest of his career; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1968, Mr. Brune was recruited to become the first |
|
general manager of the Trinity River Authority, a position he held |
|
until 1979, when he became one of the driving forces behind the |
|
Las Colinas project; over the next 10 years, he held numerous |
|
positions with the project, including director of Southland |
|
Financial Company, the publicly held company that owned Las Colinas; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Brune was active in the Catholic Church and |
|
the University of Dallas and was a member of the Knights of the |
|
Holy Sepulchre; he enjoyed cultivating his land in Foard County |
|
and was involved in helping to build the library in Crowell; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of loyalty, strength, and compassion, he gave |
|
generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel |
|
will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, |
|
and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by |
|
his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the |
|
bereaved family of David H. Brune: his daughters, Elizabeth Hark |
|
and Claudia Sandbach; and his five grandchildren and great-grandchild; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the |
|
members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from |
|
the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, |
|
it do so in memory of David H. Brune. |
