SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 245
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Brentwood Community Foundation Scholarship
Committee on the occasion of its silver anniversary; and
       WHEREAS, The Brentwood Community Foundation was founded
with the mission of improving the quality of life in the greater
Houston community through education, economic development, the
arts, and health and social services programs; and
       WHEREAS, Over the years, the foundation's Scholarship
Committee has awarded scholarships and grants to deserving
college-bound students through the generous support of corporate
underwriters and individual contributors; since the committee's
establishment, more than 1,400 high school seniors have been
awarded over $800,000 in financial support; and
       WHEREAS, Now celebrating its 25th year of supporting the
educational endeavors of the young people of Houston, the
Scholarship Committee of the Brentwood Community Foundation is
hosting its Silver Anniversary Scholarship-Luncheon Fashion
Show on May 5; Dr. Rod Paige, former secretary of education, is
serving as honorary chairperson and Macy's is one of the major
corporate underwriters; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend the Brentwood Community
Foundation for its many contributions to the quality of life in
the greater Houston community and extend congratulations to its
exemplary Scholarship Committee as it celebrates its silver
anniversary; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of the foundation and as an expression of high regard from
the Texas Senate.
