SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 246
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Women Professionals in Government of Houston on the
occasion of this outstanding organization's silver anniversary;
and
       WHEREAS, Women Professionals in Government was founded
with the goal of helping to advance the careers of women who are
involved in government and public policy; it meets monthly and
meetings are open to city, county, state, and federal professional
women, as well as men who work in or with government; and
       WHEREAS, Organized in 1981 solely for charitable, educational,
and social welfare purposes, this valuable organization seeks
to empower these women and strives to impart the knowledge and
skills essential to their career growth; it has played a critical
role in the advancement of many of its members by developing a
supportive network and by providing opportunities to them that
help them to reach their goals; and
       WHEREAS, Women Professionals in Government also provides
scholarship opportunities to young women pursuing degrees in
government and public policy and offers grant funding to agencies
serving women and children; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Women Professionals in Government
for its exceptional work on behalf of women in government and
extend congratulations to the organization on the occasion of its
silver anniversary; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
this exemplary organization as an expression of high regard from
the Texas Senate.
