SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 254
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the members of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas
for their many contributions to the preservation of Texas
history; and
       WHEREAS, The Daughters of the Republic of Texas was founded
more than 100 years ago to carry on the memory and spirit of the
men and women who achieved and defended the independence of
Texas; and
       WHEREAS, Over the years, the members of this exemplary
organization have encouraged and promoted research into the
earliest historical records of Texas, especially those relating
to the Texas Revolution of 1835 and the events that followed; and
       WHEREAS, The Daughters of the Republic of Texas strive to
memorialize the state's history by promoting the celebration of
Texas Honor Days and the erection of markers at the state's
historic sites; and
       WHEREAS, On March 2, 2007, the Alamo Mission Chapter
of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will host its
Texas Independence Day ceremony in front of the Alamo; the event
will celebrate the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence
and the beginnings of our state's history, and those who have
worked at the Alamo will be recognized for their dedicated and
valuable service; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend the Daughters of the Republic
of Texas for their many contributions to the preservation of
Texas history and extend best wishes to all attending the Alamo
Mission Chapter's Texas Independence Day ceremony; and, be it
further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
this exceptional organization as an expression of esteem from the
Texas Senate.
