SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 261
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Community Education Compact, a coalition of
educational leaders from Frank Phillips College, the Borger
Independent School District, and Texas Tech University who work
together to make residents of the Texas Panhandle aware of local
educational opportunities and to encourage young people to
complete high school and pursue higher education; and
       WHEREAS, The role of the Community Education Compact
includes supporting innovative practices that lead to
educational achievement, providing a unified voice in promoting
secondary and post-secondary education, and making provisions
for the smooth transition of high school students in the Borger
Independent School District to Frank Phillips College and to
Texas Tech University; and
       WHEREAS, The coalition strives to ensure that Borger
Independent School District offers a curriculum that meets the
contemporary needs of students and provides them with access to
higher education; the coalition seeks to secure scholarships and
financial assistance for students pursuing higher education and
training; and
       WHEREAS, The collaborative efforts of the members of the
Community Education Compact will go far in helping high school
students and the citizens of the Texas Panhandle to attain the
education they need to succeed in life and to serve as productive
members of their communities; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Community
Education Compact for their dedication and their educational
goals and extend to them best wishes for success; and, be it
further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of the Community Education Compact as an expression
of appreciation and highest regard from the Texas Senate.
