SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 307
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas welcomes members |
|
of the Stephen F. Austin State University Student Government |
|
Association and Alumni Association who are visiting the |
|
State Capitol on February 21 and 22, 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, This noteworthy occasion provides a fitting |
|
opportunity to honor these commendable organizations; and |
|
WHEREAS, Serving as the voice of the student body, the |
|
Student Government Association is an effective conduit for |
|
students to express concerns and offer suggestions to the |
|
university administration; to that end, the organization has |
|
executive, judicial, and legislative branches and regularly |
|
passes legislation to improve the quality of student life at the |
|
university and to ensure that views of the students are reflected |
|
in policies being implemented at the school; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through a wide array of endeavors, the Student |
|
Government Association helps to develop future leaders for the |
|
state and the nation; the organization provides an important |
|
forum for the more than 11,500 students currently enrolled at the |
|
university; and |
|
WHEREAS, More than 98,000 men and women have graduated from |
|
Stephen F. Austin State University since 1925, and these former |
|
students and other friends of the university are ably represented |
|
by the nonprofit Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni |
|
Association; the organization serves its membership through |
|
programs and activities that perpetuate loyalty and encourage |
|
support to the school; moreover, the association, together |
|
with the Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Foundation, |
|
presents $700,000 in scholarships and awards to approximately |
|
700 students each year; and |
|
WHEREAS, Stephen F. Austin State University has long been a |
|
source of pride to its former and current students, faculty, and |
|
administration, and the ongoing efforts of these valuable |
|
organizations ensure that it will remain a vital educational |
|
institution in the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
80th Legislature, hereby recognize February 21 and 22, 2007, as |
|
Stephen F. Austin State University Student Government |
|
Association and Alumni Association Days at the State Capitol and |
|
extend to the members of the organizations sincere best wishes |
|
for a memorable and rewarding visit to Austin; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the Stephen F. Austin State University Student Government |
|
Association and Alumni Association as an expression of high |
|
regard from the Texas Senate. |
