SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 310

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the City of Rotan on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Rotan was established as a railroad town in 1907; its central location between two forks of the Brazos River provides a perfect detour off Interstate Highway 20 for visitors to enjoy the hidden beauty of the countryside; and

WHEREAS, Peaceful landscapes, plentiful wildlife, and friendly businesses offer an escape from city life, and the vast open space is ideal for hunting; the area landmark, "The Double Mountains," was well known to the early settlers and has always been a symbol of the city; and

WHEREAS, Rotan has an abundance of local talent; popular local groups perform throughout West Texas, and theater productions are staged at the Theater on the Brazos; graduates from the high school have gone on to make their mark in the areas of law enforcement, the military, medicine, education, and law; and

WHEREAS, The city is known for its large gypsum deposit, and the manufacture of gypsum wall board has contributed greatly to the local economy; the citizens of Rotan have reason to be proud of their rich culture and their many contributions to the heritage of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 80th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the City of Rotan on the 100th anniversary of its founding and extend best wishes to its citizens for a splendid centennial celebration; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a memento of this special occasion. Duncan
