SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 311
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Castroville Library, which is receiving a $25,000
AT&T Excelerator grant from the AT&T Foundation; and
       WHEREAS, The AT&T Excelerator program is a major
philanthropic initiative of the AT&T Foundation to help nonprofit
entities better serve diverse ethnic groups, low-income families,
the disabled, young people, and senior citizens; and
       WHEREAS, The funds, which were awarded to the nonprofit
group Friends of Castroville Library, will allow the Castroville
Library to provide the latest computer technologies to better
assist library consumers; the grant will provide for new computer
systems, high speed Internet access, and technology training for
the staff; it will also be used to hire high school students who
will help patrons with digital resources; and
       WHEREAS, The AT&T Excelerator grant for the Castroville
Library is one of 23 gifts totaling more than $258,000 that the
AT&T Foundation has given to nonprofit organizations in
South Texas to help them fully integrate technology into their
ongoing operations and community outreach programs; and
       WHEREAS, Through the use of the grant, the Castroville
Library will be able to provide its patrons with improved access
to the world of technology and information, benefiting the community
as a whole; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby congratulate the members of the Friends
of Castroville Library on receiving the AT&T Excelerator grant
and commend them for their efforts to serve the interests of the
community; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
those associated with the library as an expression of high regard
from the Texas Senate.
