SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 313
 
  In Memory
  of
  Hugh Patrick Shovlin
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
  of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Hugh Patrick Shovlin, who
  died January 28, 2007, at the age of 83; and
         WHEREAS, Pat Shovlin was born November 20, 1923; he served
  in the 1st Cavalry Division during World War II in the
  Philippines and Japan, where he was awarded the Combat Infantry
  Badge; and
         WHEREAS, After he completed his undergraduate degree at
  Texas A&M University in 1945, Pat earned a law degree at
  The University of Texas School of Law; he then began practicing
  law with the firm of Birkhead, Beckmann, Stanard, Vance, and
  Wood; and
         WHEREAS, Pat resumed his military service by joining the
  United States Army Reserve; he served with the 312th Logistical
  Command and the 321st Civil Affairs Group, where he served as
  commanding officer for four years; he retired with the rank of
  colonel in 1974 and was awarded the Legion of Merit; and
         WHEREAS, Pat concluded his legal career in the
  United States Attorney's office, where he served as chief of the
  civil section; in 1975 he was appointed to serve as interim
  United States attorney of the Western District of Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Following his retirement, Pat enjoyed spending
  more time on golf, travel, and Texas A&M University football; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
  gave generously to others, and his wisdom, kindness, and valued
  counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
         WHEREAS, Pat was a devoted husband, father, and
  grandfather, and he will long be remembered with affection and
  admiration by all who were privileged to share in his life; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family of Hugh Patrick Shovlin: his loving wife of 51
  years, Clara L. Shovlin; his daughters and sons-in-law, Samantha
  and Sean McCall, Christin and Michael Ellis, and Vicki and Scott Cox;
  his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Nancy Shovlin; and his
  seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Hugh Patrick Shovlin.
