SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 321
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Grant Allen of Grand Saline, who has been named one of
Texas' top youth volunteers for 2007 by the Prudential Spirit of
Community Awards program; and
       WHEREAS, Prudential Financial, in partnership with the
National Association of Secondary School Principals, presents
these awards annually to honor young people across the nation for
outstanding volunteerism and community service; now in its 12th
year, the program is the country's largest youth recognition
program based solely on volunteer service; and
       WHEREAS, A senior at Grand Saline High School, Grant
initiated a project to soundproof three band hall practice
rooms at his school; he collected supplies and donations for
the project and recruited volunteers from all over the community
to assist him, and the undertaking was completed over three
weekends; and
       WHEREAS, The success and vitality of our communities, our
state, and our American society depends in great measure upon the
dedication of young people like Grant, who use their time and
considerable talents to serve others; and
       WHEREAS, Grant has shown by his example that he understands
the value of giving to the community, and he is truly deserving of
recognition for his initiative and dedication; now, therefore,
be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby congratulate Grant Allen on being
selected as one of our state's top youth volunteers and extend to
him best wishes for success in all his future endeavors; and, be
it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
