SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 334
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Wallace T. Ford on the occasion of his retirement
from the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center; and
       WHEREAS, A 1963 graduate of Virginia Union University,
Mr. Ford began his career with the Medical College of Virginia
as a laboratory specialist and supervisor; in 1971 he joined the
Veterans Administration Medical Center as a research associate
with The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas;
he was the first African American to hold that position; and
       WHEREAS, In 1973, he went to the Dallas Veterans Administration
Medical Center as a research chemist; in the following years he
coauthored or contributed to numerous articles and presentations;
he earned a master's degree in environmental science and science
education at The University of Texas at Dallas; and
       WHEREAS, In the 1990s, Mr. Ford received training in radiation
safety and health physics, and he has served as a radiation
safety officer; and
       WHEREAS, A talented and resourceful individual, Mr. Ford has
handled his many responsibilities with exceptional professionalism
and dedication; and
       WHEREAS, An exemplary scientist and employee, Mr. Ford is
admired and respected by his colleagues, and his presence at the
Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center will be greatly missed;
now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Wallace T. Ford for his many
years of exceptional service to the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical
Center and his many contributions to our state and extend to him
best wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
