SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 345
 
  In Memory
  of
  Magdalena Garcia
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
  of El Paso in mourning the loss of Magdalena Garcia, who died
  January 20, 2007, at the age of 61; and
         WHEREAS, Magda Garcia was a longtime El Paso resident
  and a valuable pillar in the community and was noted for her many
  contributions to the arts; she was a highly talented and
  multifaceted artist and performer; and
         WHEREAS, Skilled in many disciplines of the arts, she sang,
  directed, painted, sculpted, and designed costumes and scenery;
  she was the director and a consultant for the popular musical
  show, Viva Mexico, and she wrote many of the original scripts for
  the show and designed many of the costumes and much of the
  background scenery; and
         WHEREAS, She worked closely with local dance organizations,
  such as Ballet Folklorico El Paso and Ballet Folklorico Paso del Norte,
  and worked on shows such as Revolución; and
         WHEREAS, An exemplary lady, Magda was respected in the
  El Paso community for her outstanding accomplishments; she was
  beloved by many, and a tribute to her life was held on January 28, 2007,
  by her friends and her colleagues; area singers and dancers from
  Ballet Folklorico El Paso and Ballet Folklorico Paso del Norte
  performed, and her songs and paintings were featured; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of uncommon strength, enthusiasm, and
  generosity, Magda gave unselfishly to others, and her warmth and
  valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family of Magdalena Garcia:  her daughters, Norma Hernandez
  and Emelia Rodriguez; her brother, Dr. Jesus A. Rodriguez; her
  sisters, Leticia Perez and Connie Martinez; and her seven
  grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Magdalena Garcia.
