SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 348

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Jorge Barragan, who has been named the recipient of the 2007 Unsung Heroes Award by the Texas Public Employees Association; and

WHEREAS, An employee of the Texas Department of Transportation, Mr. Barragan is being honored for his actions in coming to the aid of accident victims on a stretch of isolated highway; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Barragan came upon the scene of a traffic accident on Texas Farm Road 1111 in rural Hudspeth County and discovered an overturned pickup truck; two children had been ejected from the truck's cab and another victim had been seriously injured; and

WHEREAS, Showing great composure and presence of mind, Mr. Barragan turned off the truck's ignition, checked for gasoline leaks, rendered first aid, and comforted the victims; and

WHEREAS, The Unsung Heroes Award is presented annually by the Texas Public Employees Association; the association will honor Mr. Barragan March 6, 2007, in Austin, where this prestigious award will be presented; he is truly deserving of legislative recognition for his deeds; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 80th Legislature, hereby commend Jorge Barragan for his selfless and heroic actions and extend congratulations to him on receiving the 2007 Unsung Heroes Award; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. Shapleigh
