SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 356
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Diana Pham, who has been named one of the top youth |
|
|
volunteers in Texas for 2007 and a Distinguished Finalist by the |
|
|
12th annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, These prestigious awards honor young people |
|
|
across America for outstanding volunteer service to their |
|
|
communities; the awards program is conducted by Prudential |
|
|
Financial in partnership with the National Association of |
|
|
Secondary School Principals with the support of numerous |
|
|
national youth, service, and professional organizations; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Diana is a senior at Summit High School in |
|
|
Arlington; she is being recognized for cofounding a tutoring |
|
|
program in 2005, Mentors Uniting Students for Enlightenment, |
|
|
which provides free tutoring for children in the first through |
|
|
sixth grades; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Currently, she has 20 mentors matched with |
|
|
20 young students for weekly sessions that focus on mathematics, |
|
|
reading, and science; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Young people in middle and high school level |
|
|
public and private schools and in community organizations such as |
|
|
Girl Scout councils and American Red Cross chapters were eligible |
|
|
for the awards; their selection was based on criteria that |
|
|
included personal initiative, creativity, effort, and impact; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Diana is an excellent representative of the fine |
|
|
young people in our state and our nation who work unselfishly for |
|
|
the betterment of their communities, and she is truly worthy of |
|
|
special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend Diana Pham for her commitment to |
|
|
serving others in her community and extend to her congratulations |
|
|
on being named a 2007 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards |
|
|
Distinguished Finalist; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
