SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 360
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Mount Zion Baptist Church on the celebratory occasion
of the dedication of its official Texas Historical Marker on
March 3, 2007; and
       WHEREAS, Mount Zion Baptist Church was originally organized
as the Bethlehem Baptist Church in 1866 by Abe and Joe Osborne and
Louis Thompson; it was reorganized as Mount Zion Baptist Church
in the 1880s under the leadership of the Reverend P. H. Collier; and
       WHEREAS, Over the years, Mount Zion Baptist Church has
ministered faithfully to the spiritual needs of its congregation;
and
       WHEREAS, Due to the guidance and wise stewardship of its
pastors and to the outstanding guidance of its current pastor,
Edward Joiner, the church has continued to grow and to undertake
many worthy projects in the community; and
       WHEREAS, For over a century, Mount Zion Baptist Church has
remained true to the vision of service set forth by its founders;
and
       WHEREAS, Mount Zion Baptist Church is one of our state's
historical treasures, and the people who have supported it over
the years deserve recognition for preserving a unique part of the
history of Sealy and Austin County; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby congratulate the members of Mount Zion
Baptist Church on obtaining a historical marker and extend best
wishes for a bright future; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of the church as an expression of esteem from the
Texas Senate.
