SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 386
 
  In Memory
  of
  Edward S. Garza
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
  of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of Edward S. Garza, who died
  February 21, 2007, at the age of 71; and
         WHEREAS, Eddie Garza was a homicide detective, a business
  owner, and a charter member of the Corpus Christi Veterans Band;
  he had played his clarinet and saxophones at the funerals of more
  than 1,500 veterans and soldiers throughout the state since 1986;
  and
         WHEREAS, He was noted for his love of Corpus Christi; the
  rescue and survival of his mother in the 1919 hurricane ignited
  in Eddie a desire to save others; he served for 29 years as a
  police officer and received numerous commendations for his
  dedication to duty and to the citizens of Corpus Christi; and
         WHEREAS, He received commendations for his service as a
  member of the Knights of Columbus, the League of United Latin
  American Citizens, and the American Legion; he was a member of
  the board of directors and president of Civitan International in
  Corpus Christi and served as the organization's district
  governor for the State of Texas; and
         WHEREAS, He owned Eddie Garza Security and Investigations
  and worked weekends and lunch hours at Pena's Meat Market, which
  is owned by his wife of 32 years, Amanda; and
         WHEREAS, Eddie Garza showed great compassion, respect, and
  love for others and honored members of the service who were
  killed in action through the music he played at their funerals;
  and
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves
  behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
  his many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Edward Garza
  and extend sincere condolences to the members of his bereaved
  family; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Edward S. Garza.
