SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 389
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Catherine Flores of San Antonio, who has been named one
of the top youth volunteers in Texas for 2007 by the Prudential
Spirit of Community Awards program; and
       WHEREAS, Prudential Financial, in partnership with the
National Association of Secondary School Principals, presents
these awards annually to honor young people across the nation for
outstanding volunteerism and community service; now in its 12th
year, the program is the country's largest youth recognition
program based solely on volunteer service; and
       WHEREAS, A senior at Saint Mary's Hall, Catherine created a
dance program for young girls living as wards of the state at
Saint Peter-Saint Joseph Children's Home; she teaches the class
twice a month to help the girls find pride and confidence in
themselves while also having fun; and
       WHEREAS, The success and vitality of our communities, our
state, and our nation depend in great measure upon the dedication
of young people like Catherine, who use their time and talents to
serve others; and
       WHEREAS, Catherine exemplifies the true spirit of giving
to the community; she truly deserves recognition for receiving
this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to
Catherine Flores for being recognized as one of our state's top
youth volunteers and extend best wishes to her in all her future
endeavors; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
