SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 393
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize March 7, 2007, as Big Spring Area Day at the Capitol; |
|
|
a West Texas city with a rich history, Big Spring is known for |
|
|
its brilliant skies and earnest hospitality, and the "Big Sky, |
|
|
Big Heart" community looks forward to a productive 21st century; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The City of Big Spring is the seat of Howard County; |
|
|
its name is derived from the huge natural spring on Sulphur Draw |
|
|
that once provided water to the Comanche and Shawnee Indians; the |
|
|
Big Spring community is home to Comanche Trail Park and Big Spring |
|
|
State Park; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Big Spring community moves into the future |
|
|
with a skilled workforce; training programs and educational |
|
|
opportunities are offered by Howard College and the South West |
|
|
Collegiate Institute for the Deaf; students from Big Spring, |
|
|
Coahoma, and Forsan Independent School Districts are encouraged |
|
|
to attend programs such as Career Day and Next Generation Day; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Big Spring community attracts business and |
|
|
industry through concerted efforts by Moore Development of |
|
|
Big Spring; the community continues to maintain its established |
|
|
manufacturing and technology industries and its vital oil, |
|
|
agriculture, and ranching industries; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Big Spring area considers its greatest resource |
|
|
to be its citizens; known for its many amenities, the area provides |
|
|
residents with vocational, recreational, and educational |
|
|
opportunities, thus ensuring a vital and prosperous quality |
|
|
of life; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes for a most |
|
|
successful Big Spring Area Day at the Capitol; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor |
|
|
of Big Spring Area Day at the State Capitol. |
