Billy Jack Zachary |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
|
commemorates the life of Billy Jack "BJ" Zachary, who died |
|
|
January 1, 2006, at the age of 32; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, BJ Zachary was born July 25, 1973, in |
|
|
Madisonville, Texas; he graduated from Madisonville High School |
|
|
in 1991 and from Sam Houston State University in 2001; while |
|
|
attending college, he started his own business, Zachary Landscape |
|
|
and Lawn; he married Tara Johnson on July 27, 2002, at Northside |
|
|
Baptist Church in Huntsville; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, BJ joined the Texas Department of Public Safety in |
|
|
February of 2004, and was stationed in Monahans; he was killed in |
|
|
the line of duty, and his tragic death was a loss not only to his |
|
|
family and his fellow peace officers but to the entire community; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan exemplified in his personal |
|
|
and professional conduct the virtues of courage, integrity, and |
|
|
unwavering dedication to duty, and his commitment to the law |
|
|
enforcement profession, as well as to the citizens he proudly |
|
|
served, earned him the respect of all who knew him; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Texans everywhere are indebted to this |
|
|
exceptional trooper and to all the fine men and women in law |
|
|
enforcement, who by their selfless devotion to the public welfare |
|
|
have enabled us to enjoy the benefits of a peaceful and orderly |
|
|
society; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Officer Zachary's exemplary service in a |
|
|
difficult but essential profession will continue to inspire |
|
|
all who knew and loved him; he was a devoted husband, father, |
|
|
and trooper, and though his life ended far too soon, his memory |
|
|
will live on in the hearts of the countless people whose lives |
|
|
he touched; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
|
|
Officer Billy Jack "BJ" Zachary and extend sincere condolences |
|
|
to the members of his family: his wife, Tara Johnson Zachary; |
|
|
his daughter, Zoe Kathryn Zachary; his parents, |
|
|
Lonnie and April Zachary; his sister, Conner Zachary; and his |
|
|
grandfather, Bill Conner; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy |
|
|
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this |
|
|
day, it do so in memory of Officer BJ Zachary. |
