SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 399
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased |
|
|
to recognize the Assistance League of Austin on the occasion |
|
|
of its 30th anniversary; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A nonprofit organization of dedicated volunteers, |
|
|
the Assistance League of Austin provides services that address |
|
|
the basic needs of children and adults in schools, hospitals, |
|
|
and senior facilities in Greater Austin; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The organization received its charter in 1977 and |
|
|
became the 60th chapter of the National Assistance League; since |
|
|
the chapter's inception, the volunteers of the Assistance League |
|
|
of Austin have contributed more than 600,000 hours of their time |
|
|
to the community and have served the people of Austin in countless |
|
|
ways; today, the league consists of more than 375 members; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Its projects include Operation School Bell, which |
|
|
has helped to clothe more than 38,000 children, the Children's |
|
|
Hospital Toy Cart, which has served more than 190,000 children, |
|
|
and Bus with Us, a program that has provided day trips for more |
|
|
than 20,000 seniors; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Assistance League of Austin has received a |
|
|
number of accolades for its exceptional service; it was named |
|
|
Outstanding Philanthropic Organization of 2007 by the Association |
|
|
of Fundraising Professionals, and it received the Freescale Award |
|
|
for Outstanding Nonprofit organization from the Greater Austin |
|
|
Chamber of Commerce; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby commend the Assistance League of Austin |
|
|
on its many humanitarian endeavors and invaluable service and |
|
|
extend congratulations to the league on the occasion of its |
|
|
30th anniversary; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the members of the organization as an expression of high regard |
|
|
from the Texas Senate. |
