SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 401
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the members of the New York City Fire Department
Bravest Football Club; and
WHEREAS, The club is a member of the National Public Safety
Football League, which is a union of public safety agency
football teams from around the country; the teams promote a
positive image to the public by raising funds for charity through
spirited competition; the club is playing the Central Texas
Wolfpack on March 31, 2007; and
WHEREAS, On September 11, 2001, the Bravest Football Club
lost 22 of its members--eight active players and staff and 14
members of its alumni association who were still active
firefighters; the team has carried on admirably despite this loss
and went on to defeat the highly regarded Los Angeles Police
Department Centurions in the 2003 National Public Safety
Football League Championship game 38-37; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Bravest Football Club embody
the finest values of firefighters everywhere, and they are truly
deserving of legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the New York City
Fire Department Bravest Football Club for their courage and
perseverance and extend to them best wishes in all their
endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the club as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
