SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 408
 
  In Memory
  of
  Robert C. Solomon
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
  of Austin in mourning the loss of Robert C. Solomon, who died
  January 2, 2007, at the age of 64; and
         WHEREAS, Robert Solomon was born September 14, 1942; an
  internationally known scholar, he was the Quincy Lee Centennial
  Professor of Business and Philosophy and a Distinguished
  Teaching Professor at The University of Texas at Austin; and
         WHEREAS, Before joining the university in 1972, he taught
  at Princeton University, the University of California, Los Angeles,
  and the University of Pittsburgh; during his longtime career with
  the university, he developed exceptional scholarly expertise
  in the areas of existentialism, the philosophy of emotions, and
  business ethics; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Solomon published more than 40 books on
  ethics and the history of philosophy, including From Hegel to ,
  Existentialism,
  he was a much-loved professor who insisted that philosophy must
  engage in the age-old issues and questions of existence; he was
  also well known for his work as a consultant to corporate executives
  on ethical issues; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
  gave unselfishly to others, and he will long be remembered for
  his generous spirit, his engaging personality, and his exceptional
  intellect and accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family of Robert C. Solomon: his wife, Kathleen Higgins;
  his brothers, H. Andrew Solomon and Jon Solomon; and his nieces
  and nephews; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Robert Solomon.
