Omar D. Flores |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt |
|
|
at the death of United States Army Staff Sergeant Omar D. Flores |
|
|
of Mission, who lost his life while serving his country in Iraq on |
|
|
July 8, 2006, at the age of 27; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A 10-year army veteran, Staff Sergeant Flores was |
|
|
assigned to the 54th Engineer Battalion, 130th Engineer Brigade; |
|
|
he followed in the footsteps of his older brother, joining the |
|
|
military after his graduation from La Joya High School; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Flores was studying at the |
|
|
University of Maryland before his deployment, and he hoped to one |
|
|
day become a Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps instructor; |
|
|
he enjoyed competing, and his athletic skills led him to a number |
|
|
of volleyball championships, while his dedication to his |
|
|
profession twice earned him the title of Non-Commisioned Officer |
|
|
of the Year; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and |
|
|
women whose love for their country inspires them to take up |
|
|
military service, yet the tragic death of this exemplary soldier |
|
|
is a sobering reminder of the cost of war; Staff Sergeant Flores |
|
|
embodied the highest ideals of the United States armed forces, |
|
|
and those who knew and loved him will forever carry him close in |
|
|
their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
80th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of United States |
|
|
Army Staff Sergeant Omar D. Flores and extend deepest sympathy to |
|
|
all those who mourn his passing; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
|
this day, it do so in memory of United States Army Staff Sergeant |
|
|
