SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 424

Amado S. Hinojosa |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Reverend Amado S. Hinojosa, who died |
|
March 29, 2006, at the age of 87; and |
|
WHEREAS, Amado Hinojosa was born July 26, 1918, in |
|
Jiminez, Tamaulipas, Mexico; he married |
|
Guadalupe "Lupita" de los Reyes-Valdez on December 24, 1940; |
|
he served as a minister in the Asambleas de Dios church for |
|
50 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Despite a formal education in Mexico that ended |
|
with elementary school, Amado Hinojosa graduated from the |
|
Instituto Biblico Magdiel in 1945 and became a leading preacher |
|
and regional administrator for the Asambleas de Dios; and |
|
WHEREAS, Reverend Hinojosa moved with his family to |
|
Lubbock in 1959 to seek better opportunities for their life; |
|
they moved to Dallas several years later, where he was |
|
instrumental in the founding of several new churches, including |
|
El Buen Pastor Ministries Asambleas de Dios in Oak Cliff; he was |
|
pastor of El Calvario Asambleas de Dios in Dallas for 25 years; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, A powerful preacher, an accomplished Biblical |
|
scholar, and a skilled and visionary administrator, |
|
Reverend Hinojosa overcame the cultural challenges of the |
|
transition from Mexico to the United States to become a teacher |
|
at Bible schools and a mentor to many; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and enduring faith, |
|
Reverend Hinojosa gave generously to others, and his wisdom, |
|
warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who |
|
knew him; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, |
|
and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by |
|
his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the |
|
bereaved family of Reverend Amado S. Hinojosa: his wife of |
|
65 years, Guadalupe de los Reyes-Valdez; his sons, Amado, Joel, |
|
Aaron, Michael, and Dan Hinojosa; his daughters, |
|
Ana Maria Estrada, Noemi Hinojosa, Magda Hinojosa Beltran, |
|
Martha Hinojosa-Nadler, and Sarah Hinojosa-Glover; and his |
|
22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy |
|
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do in memory of Reverend Amado Hinojosa. |
