SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 431
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Elephant Room, which has been named one of the top
ten jazz clubs in the country by Wynton Marsalis in USA Today; and
       WHEREAS, Artistic director of jazz at Lincoln Center in
New York, Wynton Marsalis is one of the foremost trumpeters and
composers in the world of jazz music; and
       WHEREAS, Jazz is an indigenous American art form, rooted in
African folk music traditions and infused with a uniquely
American sensibility; and
       WHEREAS, Situated on Congress Avenue just blocks away from
the State Capitol, the Elephant Room offers high energy to
patrons who enter its welcoming basement space; with locally
brewed beer from the Live Oak Brewing Company and a wide array of
talent gracing its stage, this celebrated venue stands out, even
in the Live Music Capital of the World; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to all
associated with the Elephant Room on its selection as one of the
top ten jazz clubs in the country by Wynton Marsalis; and, be it
further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the club as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
