SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 432
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the German exchange students and their teacher sponsors
who are visiting James Bowie High School in Austin and extend to
them a warm welcome on the occasion of their visit to the capital
city from March 17 through April 5, 2007; and
       WHEREAS, The exchange students are participating in the
German-American Partnership Program, which is a part of the Goethe
Institute, an international organization sponsored by the German
government; since its inception in 1977, the program has promoted
the study of German language and culture at high schools
throughout the United States; and
       WHEREAS, James Bowie High School joined the student exchange
program in 1989, and has participated in exchanges with schools
in the Munich area, initially with a high school in Pullach and
later with Gymnasium Oberhaching, a high school southeast of
Munich; and
       WHEREAS, Today, the German-American Partnership Program
encompasses approximately 730 partnerships between American high
schools and German schools; in 2006, more than 7,000 German students
visited an American partner school and more than 5,000 American
students traveled to Germany; and
       WHEREAS, Ewa Siwak is the James Bowie High School teacher
sponsoring the school's exchange program; the students visiting
James Bowie High School this year are Julian Regnet, David Schnell,
Simon Seidel, Christian Schaefer, Manuel Katzer, Theresa Lederer,
Julia Lohmann, Lisette Warkentin, Juliane Warbus, Teresa Woefel,
Verena Gernegross, Romina Ecker, Melanie Wittlinger,
Veronika Schneider, Alexia Ayvatoglou, Elina Palm, Sonja Schaefer,
Julia Wutzer, and Vanessa Mantl; and
       WHEREAS, The Texas Senate takes great pleasure in offering
these students and their teacher sponsors from Germany a cordial
welcome to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby recognize the German exchange students
and their teacher sponsors as Honorary Texans with all attendant
rights and privileges; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
