Juan Rodrigo Rodriguez |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Lance Corporal Juan Rodrigo Rodriguez, |
|
who died January 13, 2005, at the age of 23, while serving his |
|
country in Iraq; and |
|
WHEREAS, Juan Rodriguez was born November 28, 1981, in |
|
Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico; his family moved to the |
|
United States when he was a small child, and he grew up as a model |
|
student who was well-liked by his teachers and fellow students at |
|
his high school in Laredo; an exemplary young man, he participated |
|
in numerous community projects and volunteered at ceremonies to |
|
honor our nation's veterans; and |
|
WHEREAS, Juan participated in the United South High School |
|
Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps program; he |
|
was on the armed drill team that won the Challenge Level National |
|
Championship in 1999, and in his senior year, he attained the rank |
|
of cadet colonel; he graduated in 2000, and several years later, |
|
he joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves; and |
|
WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Rodriguez was assigned to |
|
Marine Forces Reserves 1st Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, |
|
4th Marine Division based in Corpus Christi when he gave the last |
|
full measure of devotion to his country; and |
|
WHEREAS, In honor of Lance Corporal Rodriguez's exemplary |
|
life and his sacrifice for his country, United South High School |
|
is dedicating a building for its Marine Corps Junior Reserve |
|
Officers' Training Corps in his honor on March 9, 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, A young man of courage, strength, and commitment, |
|
Juan was a devoted son and brother whose loyalty, compassion for |
|
others, and love of life were truly inspirational; he will long |
|
be remembered for his generous spirit and his many accomplishments; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
80th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Lance Corporal Juan Rodrigo Rodriguez: his parents, |
|
Juana Maria Rodriguez Velasco and Rodrigo Rodriguez; and his |
|
sister, Fatima Rodriguez; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy |
|
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Juan Rodrigo Rodriguez. |
