SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 439
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize United States Army Corporal Matt Murray, who recently
received a Purple Heart for his courageous service in Iraq on
behalf of his country; and
       WHEREAS, Matt Murray is a 2002 Plano High School graduate;
he joined the Army in February of 2004; an airborne infantryman,
he was deployed to Iraq in August of 2006 from the 1st Battalion,
501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, Charlie Company, Fort Richardson,
Alaska; and
       WHEREAS, He was assigned to Camp Taji near Baghdad with the
Air Force's 732nd Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron Weapons
Intelligence Flight, a joint-service unit supporting the
counter-improvised explosive device mission in Iraq; and
       WHEREAS, Matt was on an assignment to collect forensic
evidence when a device exploded and his neck was broken; he is
recovering from his injury at the Walter Reed Hospital in
Washington, D.C.; and
       WHEREAS, After he completes his recovery, Matt wants to
rejoin his unit in Iraq; his injury illustrates the tremendous
sacrifices made by our military personnel who are fighting on
behalf of this country's ideals and its commitment to spreading
freedom; Matt is a courageous and tenacious soldier, and citizens
of his state and nation are grateful for his service; now,
therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Corporal Matt Murray for his
fortitude and his patriotism and extend to him best wishes for
the future and a full recovery; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate.
