SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 444
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Private First Class Michael Fletcher of Pasadena for
his service to his country in the United States Army and for his
outstanding efforts in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
       WHEREAS, Private First Class Michael Fletcher was severely
injured in Baghdad in January of this year in Iraq; he was riding
in a Stryker vehicle when a grenade was thrown into it, landing by
his foot; although all eight infantrymen survived with injuries,
Michael's injuries were the most serious; and
       WHEREAS, After emergency surgery in Iraq and
reconstructive surgery in Germany, he was flown to San Antonio
for rehabilitative treatment; he is at home in Pasadena with his
family as he continues his recovery; and
       WHEREAS, Michael was born in Pasadena on August 21, 1984;
he graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in 2002; he studied
automobile mechanics at San Jacinto Community College and worked
for Rhodes Automotive and PMA Mastertech before joining the Army
in 2004; he was deployed to Iraq in June of 2006; and
       WHEREAS, Private First Class Fletcher is a courageous
patriot, and the State of Texas and the nation are eternally
grateful for his service and his sacrifice; and
       WHEREAS, He has demonstrated exceptional perseverance and
bravery during his military missions and during his valorous
recovery from his injuries, and he is truly an inspiration to the
citizens of his community and the State of Texas; now, therefore,
be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby commend Private First Class Michael Fletcher
for his exemplary service to his country and extend to him sincere
best wishes for his recovery; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate.
