SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 449
       WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
honor Austin's sister city Gwangmyeong and welcome the
delegation from the Korean city to the State Capitol; and
       WHEREAS, Gwangmyeong is a municipality located southwest
of Seoul; it became the 10th sister city of Austin in 2000, during
Senator Kirk Watson's tenure as mayor, and the friendship between
the cities has continued to grow, nurtured by the hospitality of
the citizens of each city; and
       WHEREAS, Gwangmyeong is establishing itself as a center
for the music industry in Korea; a huge portion of the city will
be dedicated as Music Valley, where many record and production
companies will be located and where there will be several
performing venues and subsidized housing facilities for new
artists; and
       WHEREAS, Gwangmyeong started a music festival three years
ago; the city's delegates in Austin will attend the South by
Southwest Music Festival in which Korean rock bands are
performing; and
       WHEREAS, While at the Capitol, the Korean delegation from
Gwangmyeong will visit the Korean War Memorial to pay tribute to
fallen soldiers; and
       WHEREAS, The City of Austin is fortunate to have
Gwangmyeong as its sister city and to share such a special
relationship; now, therefore, be it
       RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
80th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the City of Gwangmyeong
and extend to its representatives best wishes for a memorable
visit to Austin; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate.
