SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 456

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Lambda Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, on the occasion of its annual Evening of Brilliant Jewels, which is being held March 24, 2007; and

WHEREAS, The Lambda Zeta Chapter was granted its charter in Houston on March 29, 1934; it is the second graduate chapter of the national sorority in Texas, and through the years, a number of its members have served as officers on the national and regional levels, including Grand Basileus Lullelia Walker Harrison; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Lambda Zeta Chapter has established or sponsored several undergraduate chapters at campuses around the state, including campuses at Texas Southern University, the University of Houston, and Sam Houston State University; and

WHEREAS, The Lambda Zeta Chapter sponsored its first Evening of Brilliant Jewels in 1997, and Jewels were selected on the basis of their service to the community and their professions and were presented with Dove Awards; in 2003, the award was named the Lullelia Walker Harrison Dove Award in honor of her 90th birthday; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 80th Legislature, hereby commend the Lambda Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, for its years of service to the community and extend best wishes to all for a successful Evening of Brilliant Jewels; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. Ellis
